It’s always great to see the photos folks send to us from their yurt trips, they are always full of smiles, hugs, arms in the air reaching toward the heavens, and the vibe emanating from the images is nothing but pure bliss! Here are a few from a late December guided trip up at the Pioneer Yurt…

Wow. We are getting to the point where we are just about speechless here in South Central Idaho because the snow continues to roll in and is providing amazingly deep turns! Check out our week in photos for this past week with the images from our guides and interns who captured images as they made it to every hut and yurt to get them all online and ready for use. Yes, they are all ready and you can put your skis on from every trailhead! We still have availablity–give us a ring to book nights in the backcountry or guided days backcountry skiing.

The crew headed up to Coyote yurt a few days ago to get it ready for winter use. They found it buried under a ton of snow and the report is that the skiing is great up at Coyote!
Joe, Francie, and friends got their first powder turns of the upcoming season this past Sunday, November 25th! Our area has been blessed with a solid base thus far. Not to jinx what is to come, but, this weekend’s storm is suppose pack a punch. If it materializes, winter will not only be on, it’ll fully be on! The month of December can be hit or miss, looks like this year’s gonna be a hit! Give us a call if you want to reserve one of our six huts!
Hot off the press, Sun Valley Trekking’s Coyote yurt is featured in Backpacker Magazine’s Gear Guide!
A group of renters informed us that Chicago deep dish style pizza is a breeze to cook up at our huts and yurts. Here is how:
Coat a large skillet with olive oil
Open two pre-made Pillsbury pizza dough canisters and spread equally around the skillet.
Add sauce, cheese, and toppings
Place the skillet on the pot belly stove and cover with a lid.
Allow to “bake” for 5-10 minutes checking both the crust and cheese.
Slide the pizza out of the skillet, slice it up, and enjoy!
The boys at Juan Grande Productions have been renting out our Pioneer Yurt for a few years. Here is a crazy fun video they put together and posted on Youtube:
A group of SVT employees and friends, led by ring leader, Joe St Onge, remodeled the Boulder yurt in the early part of October. Bunks were shuffled to create more room and many features added or changed, All new are the: stove, kitchen counter and shelf, dining table, book and game shelves/storage, a two person couch (decked out with leather pillows no less), shelves for top bunks in addition to retaining bars and ladders to help the little yurters. A new shell and roof were put on and around the large yurt! The most noticeable change is that the shell now offers two east facing windows! The added natural light is amazing. We are calling this Phase One as adding a Goal Zero solar system to power interior lights and small speakers are going to happen very soon! This most definitely turned out to be a fun experience for the SVT employees, who relished the completion of the detailed project! Once we are back, we should conduct an employee engagement survey (something similar to this – https://www.qualtrics.com/experience-management/employee/employee-engagement-survey/) to learn more about their work experience and time at Boulder Yurt!
It should also be mentioned that at an overnight detailing session by the St Onge and Wolfrom family, a fun event happened. Finn lost his first tooth while brushing his teeth. Upon spitting into the slop bucket, Finn not only spat out his toothpaste, but his tooth too! It was looked for, however, the tooth was never found. Still, the Tooth Fairy was very kind and paid up even though Finn only had a note in place of the traditional offering. As he kept saying, “I really lost my tooth!”
Teaching children about the Tooth Fairy is a fabulous way to encourage children to take a proactive approach to maintaining their oral health. Talking about the Tooth Fairy can also make trips to a Dentist in Brentwood or a dentist in your area seem less daunting for a young child.

In early September, Joe led a group of professional mountain bikers on a rippin tour of the trails in our area. Based primarily out of our Coyote yurt which lies high in the Smoky Mountains of Central Idaho, Aaron Chase, Mark Weir, Ryan Thibault, and Dave Smootok were some of the boys whose fat tires floated through the summer silt. By the end of the trip, these guys were stoked to know first hand what Coyote has to offer! Here are some images Joe captured followed by a few Ryan was generous enough to let us post.
Joe St.Onge just returned from a 14 day traverse of the Boulder/White Cloud Mountains in Central Idaho with a special group of young leaders from the Wild Gift. While forest fires raged in the mountains near our route, we were fortunate to find clear skies as the so called “doughnut hole” followed the group through its entire trek. Many rugged passes were crossed and beautiful alpine basins and lakes visited on this primarily off trail route through the spectacular Idaho backcountry.
